A stage for diversity

A stage for diversity – drag, queerness and musicals: panel discussion

The musical ‘Priscilla – Queen of the Desert’ is currently bringing the colourful world of drag to the stage at the Salzburg State Theatre, addressing the difficulties and structures of discrimination faced by homosexual and trans* people in public and private life.

This raises the following questions: How can we responsibly bring queer identities and realities in all their vibrant diversity to the stage? Can drag as performance art perhaps be used as a link between different ways of life? And how can we manage to separate trans* identities and drag so clearly that it becomes obvious what is performance and what is identity?

Based on ‘Priscilla – Queen of the Desert’, the discussion of these questions will be a stimulating and colourful exchange for all interested parties, both inside and outside the queer community.

The discussion at the Salzburger Kammerspiele will feature Trina Crystal (drag queen), Nicole Klitman (drag queen), Monika Ballwein (musical performer), AC Wittmann (HOSI Salzburg) and Lily Ludwig (musicologist PLUS). Admission is free.
