Ecumenical queer church service for the Salzburg Pride Festival 2026
This marks the fourth time that a church service has formed part of the Salzburg Pride Festival. Once again this year, the service on 2 September will be ecumenical, meaning that representatives of the Protestant, Catholic and Old Catholic Churches will prepare a sermon together. The history of the Christian Church is marked by hostility and discrimination towards queer people. Even today, religion is still being exploited by people to incite hatred against minorities and exclude them.
With this queer service, the Kollegienkirche is demonstrating that everyone, regardless of their sexuality, identity or background, is welcome in its church. Religion and queerness do not have to be at odds with one another; rather, they can go hand in hand.
