Infotalk on sexually transmitted diseases with Birgit Leichsenring from the Chemsex Network Vienna and Dr. Arno Beer.

For Prideweek 2022, Birgit Leichsenring from Chem-Netzwerk Wien, together with internist Dr Michael Meilinger from Vienna, answered and classified questions on sexually transmitted diseases and drug use in a knowledgeable, witty and unpretentious manner. “…on the one hand I discovered my scientific penchant for retroviruses and thus for HIV, but on the other hand I also enjoyed a more relaxed style of communication. I still live both with enthusiasm,” says microbiologist specialising in virology Birgit Leichsenring on her website.

In 2024, there will be a “Que(e)r through all STIs” (sexually transmitted infections) info talk for the third time during Pride Week, where Birgit will answer questions. Birgit writes “After I offered a speed-dating through all STIs last year under the title “Queer through all STIs”, this year we are focussing on a few viruses. The reason for the HIV focus is that HIV is in the media spotlight this year due to PrEP and the World AIDS Conference in Munich in July. The reason for the focus on hepatitis is that we in the chemsex network have the feeling that more intravenous use is taking place and that there is therefore a risk here. However, as always, the subsequent Q&A session is open to all topics.”
