A music theatre festival that sheds light on the tension between personal identity and media presence.

The Taschernopernfestival 2023 brings 5 world premieres, presented by Klang21, to Salzburg’s stages.

Under the title “I like Max Beckmann – Sophie Calle and others”, the 10th edition of the festival is dedicated to the fusion of music and theatre. The theme “Me. Me. You?” explores self-expression, ranging from Max Beckmann’s and Sophie Calle’s art from the 20th century to today’s TikTok era. Five renowned composers, including Julia Mihály, Oxana Omelchuk and Bernhard Gander, shed light on the tension between personal identity and media presence. The performances at SZENE Salzburg offer insights into the discrepancy between the private self and the staged identity. The festival aims to inspire us to question our ideas of self-image and media presence. The 2023 Pocket Opera Festival promises a rich cultural experience and the opportunity to gain new perspectives on the challenges of self-presentation in our networked world.
