Unken Pride Parade 2026
A demonstration march through the mountain village of Unken, speeches in front of the local council office and a cosy finale with an after-show party: that will be the Unken Pride Parade 2026.
On 18 July 2026, the Heublumen association will celebrate the fifth edition of Unken Pride in Pinzgau, Salzburg. A queer anniversary of what was then the first rural Pride parade in Austria. Launched in 2021 by the two initiators Florian Niederseer and Susi Leitinger, Unken Pride combines colourful rainbow flags with traditional costumes, both then and now. Tradition and queerness go hand in hand here. Five years ago, Unken Pride began as a small demonstration march through the idyllic village of Unken. Now, Unken Pride combines traditional village charm with political speeches in front of the town hall and glamorous drag performances at the end. A sign that queer visibility and togetherness are celebrated not only in big Vienna but also in tranquil Pinzgau. (sb, photos Jakob Koch)
