wild thinX – the exhibition

The wild thinX research festival took place from 16 to 18 May in Salzburg. Although the festival weekend is over, some wild thinX formats will continue until August, including wild thinX – the exhibition.

The wild thinX exhibition at Gallery Fünfzigzwanzig is part of a programme that also includes guided city walks with a queer perspective. The exhibition opened its doors on 17 May as part of the festival and runs until 25 July. The main focus of this exhibition is the transformation of living spaces in Salzburg, Austria, but also worldwide.

Roman Höllbacher is director of the Initiative Architektur Salzburg, which is also one of the initiators of the wild thinX Festival. With regard to the exhibition, he emphasised in his opening speech at the symposium on 17 May the importance of non-conformist practices in architecture, design and art as resistance to the compulsion for constant renewal and as a promotion of fluid, open spatial strategies.

The exhibition includes video recordings from around the world in which people talk about their personal lives and living situations. Topics such as changes in living spaces in a changing society and a changing cityscape, along with current political reactions to these changes, are addressed.

Photos, old building sketches and tactile replicas illustrate ideas of what the architecture of cohabitation looked like in the past, what it looks like today and how it could potentially be designed in the future. Architecture and living spaces are explored in this exhibition from a wide range of perspectives, with concepts such as power, social norms and community being examined on a meta level.

As part of the festival, there will be a guided city walk on 5 July, highlighting Salzburg’s architecture and cityscape from a queer perspective.

Pride Month June in Salzburg

June is also known as Pride Month.
