Dragshow Salzburg

Gigi’s glamorous Christmas revue

The second event in our ‘5 Tips for Christmas’ series is the Christmas drag revue by Salzburg drag queen Gigi La Pajette. Under the motto ‘Silent Night – Shrill Night’, this show will be warm and cosy, but also colourful and flamboyant.

On 13 December, Gigi’s glamorous Christmas revue kicks off at Salzburg’s Off-Theater, a stage where Gigi La Pajette is no stranger. We chatted with Gigi about her Christmas revue and her personal Christmas celebrations.

QueerSalzburg.at: Gigi, what do Christmas and drag have in common?
Gigi La Pajette: Lots of colour, lots of glitter and lots of fun. This is my first self-produced Christmas drag revue. It’s all about bringing out your inner child. You shouldn’t take anything, including yourself, too seriously and you should forget your worries. For me, that’s what Christmas and a drag show have in common.

QueerSalzburg.at: Who will be joining you on stage this time?
Gigi La Pajette: I am very excited to be performing this revue alongside Betty Pearl, Miss LaThoya, Hairy Puta and Grazia Patricia. Four wonderful colleagues and friends of mine

QueerSalzburg.at: What can we look forward to in your ‘Silent Night – Shrill Night’ revue?
Gigi La Pajette: The programme consists of two parts, in which we cover everything that Christmas entails – from Christmas love to Christmas hate. The wonderful time spent with loved ones, but also all the work and stress associated with Christmas. All these topics are dealt with in a charming way and with drag, and here and there we queens parody them. There are numbers that are meant to make you happy, touch you or even make you think.

QueerSalzburg.at: What does Christmas mean to you personally? How do you spend this time?

Gigi La Pajette: ‘I love Christmas, and above all, I love spending Christmas with my family. We all get together, do Secret Santa and have a wonderful time together as the Pajette family. Christmas films are also part of it. I like the classics: “Home Alone” and the original Grinch from the 90s.’

Miss LaThoya: ‘When we realise that the time we take for another person is the most precious gift we can give, we have understood the meaning of Christmas.’

Grazia Patricia: ‘Grazia brings Styrian charm and Viennese wit to the revue and enchants the audience with rewritten Christmas carols. Christmas is a celebration for family, and this ensemble is a drag family – that’s why she’s very proud to be part of it!’

Betty Pearl: ‘When kitsch and satire come together, you know it’s the festive season! Let’s have some fun with a wink and celebrate the spirit of Christmas! Does anyone have any egg liqueur?’

Hairy Puta: ‘Christmas is a truly magical time for many of us. Spending this time with loved ones and doing what you love makes a big difference. Merry Christmas! Feliz Navidad!’

We are looking forward to the premiere of this new format from the creative Queens on 13 December.
