Heublumen Regenbogen Ratscher
In times of polarisation, it is important to engage in conversation with one another without prejudice. The Regenbogen Ratscher (Rainbow Chat) organised by the Heublumen association is hosting a dialogue evening to which anyone who would like to learn about queer LGBTQIA+ issues and discuss them with others is invited. A judgement-free space to ask questions and discover new perspectives.
Rainbow Ratscher is a dialogue format organised by the queer rural association Heublumen. It is a panel discussion held in rural regions of Austria and Bavaria. Speakers from the LGBTQIA+ community talk to an audience about their personal experiences in their professional lives, activism and private lives. Speakers have included Salzburg drag queen Gigi La Pajette, HOSI Salzburg managing director Conny Felice and lawyers from the Equal Treatment Office.
The Rainbow Ratscher creates a relaxed and informal living room atmosphere in which the audience can actively participate and ask questions to the speakers. The aim is to stimulate productive discussion.
‘Talk with each other, not about each other.‘
‘How should I react when my child comes out?’, ‘How do I deal with discrimination in the workplace?’, ‘Will I be able to connect with the community, especially in rural areas?’ These questions are relevant to many people across generations. “Our Rainbow Chat events attract a diverse group of people with different questions and concerns. We are particularly pleased that parents and grandparents often attend our dialogue evenings. We invite everyone,” says Florian Niederseer, spokesperson for Heublumen. In 2026, the Rainbow Chat will take place in the rural Salzburg communities of Bischofshofen, St. Gilgen, Saalfelden and Vöcklabruck.
Heublumen ‘Love blooms here’
The Heublumen have been active since August 2023. The queer Salzburg association emerged from the Unken Pride Parade 2021 in Pinzgau, Salzburg. Since then, the Heublumen have organised three rural Pride parades: the Unken Prideand Mittersill Pride in Pinzgau, and the Pongau Pride in St. Johann im Pongau, all in the province of Salzburg.
In addition, there are regular get-togethers and Rainbow Chats in rural parts of Austria. The association aims to build bridges to the countryside in terms of queer visibility and education. Their motto: ‘Love blossoms here.’

The next Rainbow Ratscher will take place on 27 February at 6 p.m. in Bischofshofen. With the ÖBB, you can travel directly from Salzburg Central Station to Bischofshofen every 30 to 60 minutes. Depending on the type of train, the journey takes between 39 and 55 minutes.
