Pride Monat Juni Salzburg

Pride Month June in Salzburg

The month of June is known worldwide as Pride Month. This dates back to the Stonewall riots in New York City in June 1969. At the end of June 1969, a raid took place at the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar.

However, the bar patrons, especially the drag queens and leather men, did not accept this discriminatory raid and fought back, which ultimately led to the Stonewall Riots. In memory and honour of the Stonewall Riots and the queer people who stood up for their rights, June is celebrated worldwide as Pride Month.

On Friday, 6 June, women will once again gather for Ladies Night at HOSI Salzburg to socialise and exchange ideas. Another event organised by the women of Salzburg is Feminale, which takes place irregularly at the Single Oak Bar – an evening full of drinks, conversation and celebration. A short editorial trip gave us an insight into the Single Oak Bar, which opened in Salzburg just over a year ago. The weekly changing special drinks, the fun bartenders and the lounge-style bar make this bar an exciting location.

On Saturday, 7 June, our favourite city guide Roman Forisch will lead a tour of Mozart’s city with a special focus on its queer history. In the evening, the big HOSI Summer party will take place at ARGE Salzburg, where summer hits will be played to celebrate the hot season.

Since Wolfgang from the gay cruising bar Dark Eagle will not be taking his Sexy Sunday Afternoon on summer break for the first time this year, on Sunday, 15 June, in keeping with the summer temperatures, restrictive clothing will be discarded in the bar.

On the following Tuesday, 17 June, HOSI Salzburg is once again hosting a queer film night in collaboration with Das Kino. This year, the film ‘Tandem – in welcher Sprache träumst Du?’ (Tandem – What Language Do You Dream In?) will be shown at Das Kino, telling the story of two queer 17-year-old women who meet during a school exchange and grow closer over time. Back to the Dark Eagle Bar on Friday, 20 June, for LMC Fetish Night, where experienced veterans and newbies can swap stories about fetish, lust and sex over a few drinks – and put them into practice in the basement.

Although no longer taking place in June, it is still worth mentioning the city walk organised by HOSI Salzburg in collaboration with wild thinX on 5 July. The meeting point is HOSI Salzburg at 11 a.m. The city walk will focus on architecture and living space design. Led by Conny Felice, managing director of HOSI Salzburg, the tour will also incorporate a queer perspective. In keeping with this theme, the wild thinX exhibition at Galerie Fünfzigzwanzig will also explore these ideas for future living spaces with a mixture of photos, videos, architectural sketches and tactile contributions.

During Pride Month in Salzburg, you can enjoy a wide variety of queer events, ranging from parties to educational activities. This is sure to build excitement for the Salzburg Pride Festival, which kicks off at the end of August.
