Rediscover Salzburg
The opening of the border between Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein has recently been finalized, as the Salzburger Nachrichten reported yesterday (3.06.). From 15 June, i.e. in just under two weeks, tourist border traffic with Austria will also be possible again. This means that nothing more stands in the way of a trip to the beautiful city on the Salzach. Rediscover Salzburg is the motto of Tourismus Salzburg.
In the post-coronavirus era, many things have changed, even in Salzburg, which is usually very popular with tourists. The city guides have resumed their work and are offering tours for locals who want to rediscover their city. You can simply join in. You can read here which museums and attractions are reopening and when.
The Salzburg Festival will take place despite coronavirus thanks to a huge organisational effort. In its 100th year, the organisers have managed to avoid having to cancel the event. Instead, the festival will go ahead in a reduced form on the ‘stage of the world’, as Salzburg confidently calls itself. The exhibition ‘Great World Theatre – 100 Years of the Salzburg Festival’ accompanies the anniversary. The exhibition is expected to open late, probably at the end of July, and will provide an exciting insight into 100 years of cultural history.
LGBTI scene of Salzburg is fixed
For many other events, such as the Rupertikirtag in September, it is not yet certain whether they will be able to take place. What is certain, however, is that Salzburg’s LGBTI scene was able to unceremoniously postpone all important events this year until the fall. Chapeau!
On the weekend of 4–6 September, HOSI Salzburg will host the CSD, which was originally supposed to take place next weekend. With kick-off parties on Friday in the Salzburg scene, a parade through downtown Salzburg and a CSD party at the HOSI Festival on Saturday.
From 18 to 20 September, it’s Pride Boat weekend. With a welcome evening in the rooftop bar of the arte Hotel with spectacular views, a queer city tour, Pride Boat on Lake Wolfgang and Sunday brunch.
And on 17 October, Gigi LaPajette will be hosting the Long Night of Diversity. The programme will take place in four trendy venues – simultaneously – throughout the night!
Perhaps there is something that can make up for the unusual CSDs this year? This brings us back to the title of this article, ‘Rediscover Salzburg’. Anyone who has not yet considered Salzburg as a travel destination for gay people may be persuaded otherwise this autumn. And perhaps discover a new place of longing?
