11 May 2026 That was “A symphonic tribute to Michael Jackson”. As queersalzburg, we were there when the Salzburg Philharmonic, together with the dance company “The Tellers Dance Company London”, brought a reimagined version of some of the most iconic pop music to the main stage of the Salzburg Festival Hall. The well-known Michael Jackson classics, from “Smooth Criminal” and “Beat It” to “Thriller”, were performed. A particularly beautiful moment was the finale, during which “We Are the World” was played and sung together by the entire hall, audience and musicians alike.

The long standing ovations after the concert were a fitting reward for the many creative talents on display that evening. The two Michael Jackson impersonators, Jamaal Fields-Green and Benét Monteiro, received a special round of applause, having done the King of Pop proud with their singing and dance moves. Naturally, Principal Conductor Elisabeth Fuchswas treated to a particularly loud round of applause, having led the more than 200 musicians and choir singers with her energy and enthusiasm.

In our opinion, “A symphonic tribute to Michael Jackson” was exactly what it promised to be: a symphonic tribute to the pop legend himself: Michael Jackson. (sb)

21.04.2026 Old Town Saturday is an initiative of the Salzburg Old Town Association. Every month, on a Saturday, the Old Town is transformed into a meeting place with a special theme – as was the case last Saturday (18 April). In keeping with the spring season, this Old Town Saturday focused on everything to do with ‘urban gardening’.

Businesses, associations and initiatives such as Bienenlieb, Die KlarlBäurin, Bio Austria, the Erdling association and many more set up their stalls at Salzburg’s Kajetanerplatz, shared insider gardening tips and offered seedlings for people to take home. Seeds and seedlings for vegetables, fruit and herbs, complete with expert advice on how to care for them – everything a gardener’s heart desires. Perfect, then, for discovering your own green thumb. Live DJ music provided the soundtrack to this green Old Town Saturday at Kajetanerplatz.

You can tell: the restaurants’ outdoor terraces are full, the ice-cream parlours are bustling, and there’s plenty going on in the streets of Salzburg. Spring has finally settled in for good in the City of Mozart. The next Altstadtsamstag takes place on 16 May. Under the theme ‘Genussmarathon’, the annual Salzburg Marathon takes centre stage. (sb)

1.04.2026 queersalzburg.at attended the performance of “Planet [wanderer]” as part of this year’s Easter Festival. Just arriving in the foyer of the Felsenreitschule, or rather the Haus für Mozart, is an experience in itself – paintings, sculptures and striking architecture bring this Salzburg temple of the arts to life. A champagne reception got the audience in the mood for the upcoming performance. Whilst we were chatting, the bell signalled for us to take our seats in the Haus für Mozart.

The one-hour performance by the eight dancers completely captivated the audience. Apart from the music, not a word could be heard from the audience. Only the occasional “oohs” and “aahs” at particularly striking movements and the interplay between the dancers broke the silence.

Although the setting was in space, the dancers’ movements were fluid, as if they were underwater and being carried along by the ocean currents. The background music can be summed up in one word: multifaceted. From dissonant and mystical sounds, through the steady beeping of a satellite, to the full crescendo of a wind ensemble, everything was there, underscoring the multi-layered nature of the performance. At the end, time trickled down upon the dancers in the form of silvery threads until they ceased to move, and thus time itself brought the performance to a close.

A long standing ovation at the end of the performance rounded off the lively show, which is sure to remain in the memories of many audience members for a long time to come. (sb)
