The Ö3 Christmas miracle in Salzburg

Miracles don’t always happen by themselves. Sometimes you have to give them a little help. With this in mind, the Ö3 Christmas Miracle is returning to the city of Mozart for the first time since its premiere in 2014 at Kapitelplatz in the heart of Salzburg. From 19 to 24 December, Philipp Hansa, Tina Ritschl and Andi Knoll will be hosting the event for a total of 120 hours.
At Kapitelplatz, the three presenters, who are well known throughout Austria, broadcast continuously from a glass radio studio. The whole event becomes a Christmas miracle thanks to a wonderful way of getting involved. For a donation to the ‘Licht ins Dunkel’ emergency aid fund, Ö3 Radio will play your favourite song. It’s a gift to the ‘Licht ins Dunkel’ campaign and a musical gift to you in return.

In this way, over €36 million has been raised for the fund over the last eleven years. This shows that, despite the challenging times, people are still willing to help and support others. This year’s Christmas fundraising campaign is being organised by the Salzburg Old Town Association, the City of Salzburg as this year’s host, and partners Tourismus Salzburg GmbH and the Salzburg Tourism Promotion Fund.

‘The Ö3 Christmas Miracle stands for solidarity, community and diversity – values that define our city. We will do everything we can to make the Christmas Miracle 2025 a special experience for all of us,’ said Salzburg’s mayor Bernhard Auinger.
Solidarity, community and diversity
So if you’re planning to visit the Christmas market at the Old Market anyway, you can take a detour to the nearby Kapitelplatz. Once you’re there, making a donation to the ‘Licht ins Dunkel’ emergency aid fund is a great way to do some good. We can hope that this year’s total will exceed the previous 36 million euros.

Priscilla – Queen of the Desert
The film and musical ‘Priscilla – Queen of the Desert’ tell the story of two drag queens, Mitzi and Felicia, and a trans woman, Bernadette, who travel through the Australian outback in an ageing bus called ‘Priscilla’ to put on a show in Alice Springs. The musical will premiere at the Salzburg State Theatre on 6 December 2025, directed by Ramesh Nair.
A plea for human tenacity
The fourth tip in our Christmas series takes us to the Volksgarten in Salzburg. From 26 November to 6 January, the Winterfest, the largest circus festival in the German-speaking world, will take place here. Since 2001, the Volksgarten has regularly been the venue for a colourful circus ring as part of the Winterfest. International and local artists enchant audiences with poetry, drama and, of course, lots of acrobatics.
