We build bridges! The big city festival

The big Salzburg City Festival – the first of its kind – will take place on the weekend of 27 to 29 June. Under the motto ‘We build bridges!’, the city of Mozart will be transformed into a colourful mile full of music acts, art and culture.
The Staatsbrücke bridge will be transformed into a festival area and closed to normal traffic for the entire weekend. The bridge, which is normally only used by cars and buses, will become an open meeting place for the first time ever for an entire weekend. The festival programme – and there is plenty to see and do – extends along both sides of the Salzach river and up Linzergasse.

Live open-air concerts, interactive programmes in the heart of Mozart’s city and sports tournaments for everyone are all part of this city festival premiere. If you want to let your artistic side run wild, the graffiti workshop on Franz-Josef-Kai is just the thing for you. The hip hop workshop in the Volksgarten will get you moving. Music lovers can enjoy concerts by local musicians at Kajetanerplatz and the Alter Markt, for example. A public viewing event at Kapitelplatz with the fitting title ‘Sternenkino Salzburg’ (Salzburg Star Cinema) and many other events round off the event weekend. All 189 programme items can be found on the Salzburg City Festival website.
There will also be a wide variety of restaurants and bars, such as the well-known Single Oak Bar, which also hosts the HOSI Feminale. Like other restaurants, it will be serving well-deserved refreshments or nightcaps after all the workshops, concerts and sporting activities.
HOSI Salzburg is also participating in the programme. On 29 June, HOSI Night ‘Zamkema & Zsammsitz’n’ will take place. An open evening for everyone to meet, get to know each other and chat.

‘The event will generate positive momentum on both sides of the Salzach River and thus literally build bridges in Salzburg’s old town,’ said Roland Aigner, managing director of the Old Town Association, about the city festival. The programme is diverse, brings different people together and thus underlines the motto ‘We build bridges’.

All public transport in the Salzburg city area is free of charge during the Salzburg City Festival. This applies from Friday, 27 June at 9:45 a.m. until Sunday, 29 June at midnight. A separate route map applies to lines crossing the city centre. (sb)

This will be the Pride Festival Salzburg 2025
At the end of August and beginning of September, the largest queer event in Salzburg will take place once again – the Pride Festival 2025. Once again, the aim is to bring queer issues to the public's attention and communicate with the city's residents on an equal footing. In these times of populism and fake news, it is more important than ever for the queer community to show itself. So the motto remains ‘Be visible, Schatzi’. Click here for the preliminary programme. wild thinX – the exhibition
In mid-May, the wild thinX research festival opened up a speculative space for rethinking built and natural environments in the Salzburg cityscape. The appeal of thinking and designing differently lies in the potential horizons of political imagination. Although the festival is over, an exhibition will continue to explore the theme until 25 July, inviting visitors to engage with their own perceptions. [Read more]
