Follow the star!

24 businesses in 24 days. During the pre-Christmas period, Salzburg’s Linzer Gasse is transformed into a multifaceted Advent calendar. Under the motto ‘Follow the star!’, the famous Salzburg shopping street becomes a special Christmas experience during Advent.
Every day, a wooden star lights up in one of the 24 participating businesses in the Linz Gassen Advent Calendar, indicating exclusive discounts or sweet culinary surprises. Rupertus Buchhandlung kicks things off on 1 December. Other participants include Café Die Liebhaberei (11 December), Mayrische Musikalienhandlung (18 December) and Bäckerei Leimüller (21 December).
Brass ensembles and a competition
On three days, brass ensembles will provide festive music for atmospheric moments in the squares and alleys around Linzer Gasse. They can be heard on 12, 19 and 23 December, from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm each day.
In addition, free competition cards can be found in all participating establishments. Possible prizes include dinner for two at the Cavalli restaurant, €100 worth of Old Town vouchers and two tickets to the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra concert at the Mozarteum.

This is how the Advent calendar transforms Linzer Gasse into its own Christmas market for the first time. On each of the 24 days, window shoppers can look forward to different activities and surprises.
Throughout the year, Linzergasse is the venue for a wide variety of events. With the Linzer Gassen Advent calendar ‘Follow the Star!’, there is now a new event that brings the historic alleyway to life during the Christmas season. The digital Advent calendar, which provides a complete overview of the participating shops, can be found here.
The Andräviertel – Salzburg’s Queer Village
Linzer Gasse is part of the Andräviertel – a lively, urban part of Salzburg on the right bank of the Salzach. In this district, theatre and music meet young entrepreneurs, and old Viennese coffee house culture meets modern cuisine. The district is home to all the queer scene’s meeting places, making it Salzburg’s queer village, so to speak.

Priscilla at the Salzburg State Theatre
5 event tips for pre-Christmas Salzburg? We start with ‘Priscilla – Queen of the Desert’. This musical, which premieres on 6 December, is not only entertaining but also promotes queer visibility and empowerment. Priscilla will be performed eight times at the Salzburg State Theatre until New Year's Eve.
Gigi's glamorous Christmas revue
The second Christmas tip is Gigi La Pajette's Christmas revue. A premiere in Salzburg and in Gigi's repertoire. A new format, which Gigi has repeatedly devised and produced in recent years. Now, on 13 December, she will be on stage at the OFF Theatre with four of her Austrian drag colleagues, interpreting the festival of love in her own unique way.
A plea for human tenacity
The fourth tip in our Christmas series takes us to the Volksgarten in Salzburg. From 26 November to 6 January, the Winterfest, the largest circus festival in the German-speaking world, will take place here. Since 2001, the Volksgarten has regularly been the venue for a colourful circus ring as part of the Winterfest. International and local artists enchant audiences with poetry, drama and, of course, lots of acrobatics.
