amfAR Salzburg
HIV and AIDS Charity Gala at the Salzburg Residence
The Foundation for AIDS Research, or amfAR for short, is one of the world’s leading organisations in the fight against HIV/AIDS. It was founded in 1985 through the merger of two initiatives, one of which was led by legendary actress and activist Elizabeth Taylor. As one of the first prominent voices to speak out publicly against the stigmatisation of HIV-infected people, she made a significant contribution to raising awareness and funding AIDS research. Since its inception, amfAR has invested over $900 million in more than 3,800 research projects with the clear goal of defeating AIDS one day. In addition to raising global awareness, amfAR’s high-profile galas serve as a significant source of revenue.
Under the direction of Gery Keszler and the LIFE+ association in collaboration with amfAR, the Residenz Salzburg in the DomQuartier will be the venue for a spectacular charity event on 24 August 2025, bringing together international stars, high-profile guests and an exclusive gala dinner with first-class entertainment – all in the name of AIDS research. Between opera and pop, dance and projection, couture and allegory, an evening full of contrasts unfolds: festive and profound, glamorous and thoughtful, entertaining and effective – a gala that touches without pathos and inspires without pointing fingers. Highlights such as the auction of costumes designed by Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood, a performance on Mozart’s original piano and the final choir scenes in the cathedral create emotional moments with a clear goal: to make a difference together. In Salzburg. For the world.
After the gala in the Residenz, guests can look forward to a stylish after-party at Leopoldskron Palace dedicated to the 60th anniversary of The Sound of Music – with international DJs and a unique atmosphere. Further information about this event can be found here.
