Salzburg has a well-established and active LGBTI scene. Regular parties like the HOSI-Fest, the Salzburg Pride, the Pride Boat and many other events are highlights of the scene’s annual calendar. And the scene bars are of course there all year round for locals and guests from all over the world. That is queer Salzburg.
Saturday 21 April 2026 is the perfect day for a stroll and a spot of shopping – most people have the day off. Salzburg’s Old Town provides the ideal setting for this. This year’s Graz Tuntenball took place on Saturday (21 February 2026). Every year, the Courage Award is presented at this event. It honours commitment to queer visibility and dialogue. This year, the award went to Salzburg for the first time, to the Heublumen association, which is now in its fourth year of promoting the interests and communication of queer people in the Salzburg region. Since 2023, the Heublumen have been taking their dialogue format ‘Regenbogen Ratscher’ (formerly ‘QueerTalk’) to rural communities in Salzburg. In a relaxed setting, the association aims to educate people about LGBTQIA+ issues and initiate productive discussions. In 2026, the format will continue in four Salzburg communities. The third tip for our Christmas events is a real classic. The Salzburg Christmas Market is the flagship event of Mozart’s city during the festive season. One of Europe’s most beautiful Christmas markets opens its doors from 20th November to 1st January. For 21 years now, Christmas shoppers have been able to find the HOSI Salzburg punch stand at the Old Market among the stalls selling mulled wine, biscuits and children’s toys. [Read more]

Halloween, the pre-Christian Celtic custom that came to us from Ireland via the USA in the 19th century, has now developed creative potential of all kinds in Salzburg. With an organ concert by the Mozarteum Foundation, a rave by the record label ‘P LAB Recordings’ and Dragoween by the Magic Garage, the Halloween spirit is being celebrated in very different ways this year.
